2012
January 21st – Crazy quilt stitches and ribbon embroidery – led by Best of Show winner Susan Richards
February 18th – Charity sew Day
March 17th – Froncie Quinn – Froncie Quinn’s Calico garden – hand appliqué – with antique replica theme
This charming quilt, known as the Calico Garden was originally made by quilt historian and quilter, Florence Peto. Known by her family as ” Florrie” she clearly incorporated her love of flower gardens into her adorable and whimsical baby quilt. Help your quilt sparkle, too, by learning some of Florrie’s little secrets. This is a hand-piecing and hand applique class, with various methods of applique demonstrated. An emphasis on learning broderie perse for the borders, enables the quilter to truly duplicate this little beauty. A piece of history remade! Choose 1, 1 1/2 or 2 days
April 20th – Suzanne Marshall – Hand quilting
The class will include preparing the quilt for hand quilting, discussion of battings, demonstrations, and hands-on experience with plenty of individual attention from the instructor. Wonderful results can be obtained, often with smaller stitches.
There will be templates galore to select and copy and numerous battings to run the needle through to see which is the favorite.
April 21st – Suzanne Marshall – Appliqué – Art Nouveau
I’ve enjoyed working with art nouveau designs because of the graceful, flowing lines and interpretation of forms derived from nature. Enjoy appliqueing a floral block, learning methods for smoothing curved lines and using take-away applique for the multipieced flowers. The pattern (provided in class) makes a beautiful small wallhanging or is the perfect starting point for an art nouveau quilt.
May 18th – Lenore Crawford – Mini Blended Fabric Art Collages
Using tiny pieces of fabric and tweezers students will create mini-blended designs to take home and frame. Fabric paints are used on strips of fabrics to create the birch trees. Lenore will supply fabrics, fabric paints, muslin, and scraps for creating trees. Click here for supplies list for this workshop. Finished size of minis can be 4″ X 6″ or 6″ X 8″ which can be matted on 8″ X 10″ and 11″ X 14″ mat board to be framed or even larger if desired. $20 supplies fee required.
May 19th – Lenore Crawford – Yellow Poppies – fusible flowers
In this workshop the designing of a small fused project will begin. We will work from one of three of Lenore’s patterns that are shown on the Patterns page of this website: Yellow Poppies, Red Poppies or Yellow Cone Flower since these are the least complex patterns for beginners. It will be outlined on freezer paper and then transferred to a background fabric on which the design will be fused. No sewing will be done during the workshop, only the designing and fusing. You will learn how to make your own patterns from your own photos too! Lenore will also demonstrate how to add fabric painting to your design to add detail and depth; students will do painting on their own designs in the two day workshops. Click here for Supplies List for this workshop. $15 supplies fee required includes patterns by Lenore plus other supplies she provides. For fabric requirements for the patterns for this class click here Fabric Requirements for Patterns. Select your fabric before class for the pattern you choose to bring to class!
